From: Peaseblossomm@aol.com Here is my Great-grandmother McKniff's recipe for scones: (Feel free to link, upload, copy, post to other lists and generally share this freely with others!) ;o) Scones 2 cups flour 3 Tbl. sugar 2 tsp. baking powder pinch of salt 6 Tbl. shortening 1/2 cup milk raisins Sift dry ingredients together. Cut in shortening. Stir in milk. Add raisins. Roll into circle about 1/2 inch thick. Cut into pie wedges. Brush tops with a beaten egg. Place on ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 400* for 8-10 minutes until golden brown. My great-grandmother came over from Keighley, Yorkshire, England in September of 1909 with her husband and six children. She was very pregnant with her seventh at the time, too. They came through Ellis Island and my grandmother remembered coming through there all of her life (she just passed away last year at the age of nearly 94). She was only three when she came through Ellis Island. My grandmother used to make these scones for me whenever I would stay with her and she ALWAYS had tea with cream and sugar. I really miss her. I think I will make a batch of scones before our little chat. Maybe some of you will feel so inspired, too! :o) God bless! -Gail in VA
